Welcome to the School Bank

Our school bank initiative allows children to learn practical engaging money management skills and real life work situations by running their very own school bank weekly. Children who decide to save with their school bank will receive a junior savings account paying a competitive 5% interest.

Testimonies

"The school bank has been a fantastic way to help our pupils learn about money in a real and meaningful way. It encourages children to think about saving, budgeting, and making sensible choices with money from an early age.

For those involved in running the bank, it’s also a great way to build confidence, teamwork, and responsibility. It brings learning to life and gives our pupils important skills they’ll carry with them into the future."

"Having a school bank has had a massive impact on our school. It has raised the profile of the power of saving money and the control children can have of their money, and therefore increased their awareness of the power of their choice as well as the value of delayed gratification.  Children are more confidently talking about money and the importance of saving. We know too that by empowering the children to have a bank account that they physically pay money into (rather than one where money is transferred electronically via apps) makes the money seem more real to the children.

Additionally, having a school bank has provided the opportunity for us to build leadership capacity by creating the banking administration roles for our older pupils. These children go through an application and interview process which gives them good experiences of these and helps prepare them for future work.

We have a goal that ALL children, particularly our most vulnerable children have a bank account."

How does it work?

The school bank is run by year 5 and 6 pupils overseen by an adult member of staff. The school bank will open once a week at a time and day to suit the school. Every child that pays into their school bank will be given a Junior Saver Account with West Cheshire Credit Union.

The aim...

Our aim is to instill good money management from a young age. It is a cash paying in system at the school bank meaning that children are given the opportunity to handle money in a real life situation. The children who become our banking team for the school year will also have to apply for their positions by completing an application form and then attend an interview to select the team.

Simple and enjoyable!

Our school bank programme is simple to implement into any school setting. We have made the process easy and we have had great feedback from the schools who already take part. The pupils enjoy it and so do the teachers!!! Get in touch and join in the School Bank Programme today!
