The long established experience that West Cheshire Credit Union can demonstrate recognises the challenge many families have when it comes to meeting the costs of school uniforms.
In a bid to assist we are again introducing a specific loan product to help in some way to meeting the cost of the uniform. Moreover, one of the biggest outlays parents find is for children's shoes which all soon adds up.
West Cheshire Credit Union aims to complement other school uniform providers, such as School Uniform Banks, the charity and pre loved clothing sector in an aim to take at least some of the burden and pressure away from parents to have to meet the financial requirements of purchasing school uniforms.
West Cheshire Credit Union has been working alongside the Cheshire West and Chester 'School Uniform Working Group' where group discussions amongst key people and organisations in the school and education sector come together to evaluate the impact of affordable uniforms and the possible collective solutions. West Cheshire Credit Union has just one part to offer in a much wider solution for parents and by providing access to a small affordable loan we hope to alleviate some of the worry for parents in meeting the costs.
Our repayment on a £250 School Uniform Loan is just £5.75 and with a total interest repayable of £48 (42.6% APR) the whole cost of the loan comes in at £298. This is far better that some thinking they have no alternative other than to turn to high interest short term lenders who may charge up to 1250% interest or worse case scenario the growing trend in illegal money lending.
