Our Work In Crewe is Gaining Momentum

Through the work of our Outreach Officer for Crewe (Juliette) we are beginning to make an impact on raising the visibility and awareness of the essential services we can bring to the town when people are looking for affordable, safe and regulated borrowing options.

With the generous support of Bentley Motors, combined with Cheshire Community Foundation it has been possible to allow the work Juliette undertakes to take place as it has been recognised for some time that Crewe (and the wider Cheshire East area) lacks the provision of a credit union.

Regrettably for many citizens of the Town they have felt due to no alternative when it comes to borrowing the need to turn to illegal / predatory lenders, or the many high interest legal lenders who are emerging with interest rates ranging from 280% APR through to some 1250% APR!

Compare these rates with West Cheshire Credit Union that range from 26.5% to 42.6% then there is a significant difference. Don't forget also that West Cheshire Credit Union is owned and controlled by its members and operates on a not for profit basis so you can rest assured money stays in the local economy for the benefit of the community. its also about 'people helping people' which falls at the foundation of what West Cheshire Credit Union is all about.

The UK Illegal Money Lending Team have for some time now identified and arrested several illegal lenders in the Crewe area which gives a strong indication many are falling victim to such lenders.   It is West Cheshire Credit Unions aim to not only raise awareness of the dangers of using illegal lenders, but also point out there are affordable, safe and regulated options such as credit unions when it comes to borrowing.

The support for our work also of some of our other partner organisations in the area which

helps us reach tenants across the town and great thanks must also go to Guinness Partnership for their support in the work we are undertaking as they recognise that some of their most vulnerable tenants could possibly fall victim to predatory lenders.

We recognise that for many families and individuals alike the cost of living crisis has hit hard and every penny counts when it comes to weekly budgets. Juliette has been located in key outlets assisting with budgetary advice and explaining how West Cheshire Credit Union may be able to help with a small to medium sized loan thus avoiding the need to turn to other options.  This work is essential as the face-to-face interaction allows also for other matters to surface and when this occurs Juliette is on hand to signpost to the relevant services who maybe able to help.

As we head into the Summer months school holidays also bring many challenges to parents, from feeding the children to then the cost of school uniforms and given this once again we would encourage those who live in Crewe or surrounding areas to get in touch as there are a few products West Cheshire Credit Union provides which could help cover these costs.

Our popular Family Loan is one example and also a recently introduced School Uniform Loan which are all intended to help in situations such as school holidays and uniforms.
